I studied medicine at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, before undertaking general medical training in Newcastle, Durham, London and Bristol.
I completed my PhD at the Institute of Neurology/Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy, in an epidemiological study using MRI to investigate the causes and consequences of epilepsy.
I subsequently undertook my neurology training in London at Guy’s Hospital, St Thomas’ Hospital, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (Queen Square) and King’s College Hospital.
I was appointed consultant neurologist at St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London in 2003 and have since held a full time NHS appointment there.
